Diseases and their treatment from Islamic viewpoint

Two aspects of human body, health and disease, are natural and it is obligatory on a human being to take care of his health and get treated when sick or struck with disease.

Disease and cure are from Allah, it is said in the Quran in clear terms " I give sickness & I cure" it is stressed in other revelations to observe outward and inward cleanliness and at the same time take necessary precautions to ward off diseases by taking healthy and halal food and keep away from unhealthy and harmful food and thus keep the body healthy.

In spite of these if one gets sick, according to Islamic teachings, we are advised and it is made obligatory to receive necessary treatment. Prophet (S.A.W) has ordained to receive treatment on being truck with sickness and said Allah has not created any disease for, which there is no medicine or cure. Thus we are advised to create treatment means (hospitals) to cure diseases being afflicted.

Prophet (S.A.W) was taking treatment, while sick and advised his companions to seek treatment and at the same time instructed to take certain type of food, fruit's and in particular, diseases take certain types of herbal medicines and in certain quantities.

Prophet (S.A.W) encouraged medical science and during Jihad periods provided examples of casualties being treated with operations. He also blessed hakims with supplications to treat patients with sincerity and reward in after life. Not only this, but if anyone said some soothing words to a diseases person, or if he strived to promised a good reward in the after life and pleasure of Allah.

Diseased persons are given exemptions and concessions from Fard Ibadat like Salat and fasting and thus provided and examples that such persons deserve support.

In short Islam has shown that treatment of disease is a prophet's (S.A.W) Sunnah and stressed that pleasure of Allah and reward in the after life can be achieved by helping diseased and suffering human beings. We are also reminded to pay full attention towards these needs.

To avoid opening "sutter" private part, male doctors(in maternity case) and other unauthorised persons, it has been considered necessary to appoint lady doctors in the first place and for this, necessary help and prayers from benevolent persons are earnestly requested.
